PALAKKAD: A father-son duo was killed and four others were injured when a lorry ploughed into them on Thursday near the National Highway at Kanjikode.
The deceased were identified as Ramadasan Nair, 70, of Kalluvazhi Puthenveetil at Sreekrishnapuram, and his son Rahul Krishnan, 37. Ramadas and Rahul, who were employees of the Amrita Educational Institution at Ettimadai, were on their way to Ernakulam in a car.
A van which was coming from the opposite direction rubbed against the car.
An argument ensued between those who were travelling in the van and the car. While they were arguing, a lorry which was speeding struck them from behind.
Ramadasan and his son died on the spot. Preman, 41, of Irumpanam in Tripunithura , Shanmughan, 38, Radhakrishnan, 51, and Shashi , 43, were injured.
Residents and Fire and Rescue service personnel rushed them to hospital. The Walayar police have registered a case.
The lorry has been taken into custody. Ramadasan Nair is survived by his wife, Ambujakshi Amma and daughter Anita. Rahul Krishnan is survived by his wife, Sreela.
