District Panchayat Plans Big Leap Forward with ‘Mission Sweet 17’

The district panchayat is all set to launch 17 novel projects named ‘Mission Sweet 17’, apparently eyeing the panchayat polls scheduled for next year.

KAKKANAD: The district panchayat is all set to launch 17 novel projects named ‘Mission Sweet 17’, apparently eyeing the panchayat polls scheduled for next year.

“The projects are aimed at bringing 100 per cent success rate for the panchayat on the development front and to better its image” said Eldhose Kunnappilly, district panchayat president.   

The key projects include school infra, Multi-specialty hospital for animals, air-conditioned bus waiting sheds, ward-level social auditing teams, water-rich district, foreign education for SC/ST students and three-wheelers for the physically challenged, he said.

Under the school infra project, 27 schools in the district would be revamped with advanced infrastructure facilities and other amenities. The air-conditioning of bus stops would be carried out in all the panchayat on the basis of availability of the land. The social auditing group at the ward-level will be formed mainly to audit all the contract work assigned by the panchayat, he added.  “It will help check irregularities in contract works.

The auditors will look into the works and the distribution of funds will be based on the reports,” Eldhose said.

The water-rich district project will be implemented in association with the district administration and the local bodies. As part of the project, various measures will be taken to conserve water for drinking and also for agriculture pupose.

“Along with this project, we will focus on prevention of monsoon diseases in the district by collaborating with the Health and other departments. Also, we will strive to revive the basic infrastructure facilities in the Aluva General Hospital and the District Ayurveda Hospital,” he said.  Besides, installation of fire extinguishers at schools, tailoring unit at Children’s Home, ISO certification for panchayat, promotion of art and cultural programmes are among the other major projects .
