Kasargod All Set for Janapaksha Yatra

KASARGOD: The roads and towns in Kasargod have been decked up with Congress flags and buntings, and punctuated with posters of KPCC president V M Sudheeran, announcing the beginning of his state-wide ‘Janapaksha Yatra,’ beginning from Kasargod on Tuesday.

The Congress’s campaign - for secular, violence-free, liquor-free and a developed Kerala - will be flagged off by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Kumbla at 4 pm,  District Congress Committee president C K Sreedharan has said. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will preside over the function.

The ‘yatra’ will conclude with a rally in Thiruvananthapuram on December 9, after touching the southern tip of the state, at Parassala. Rajya Sabha vice-chairman P J Kurien, ministers Aryadan Muhammed, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, V S Sivakumar, K C Joseph, Adoor Prakash, K Babu, A P Anilkumar, P K Jayalakshmi, C N Balakrishnan, Karnataka ministers Ramanath Rai, U T  Khader and Vinaya Kumar Sorake will attend the inaugural function at Kumbla.

KPCC leaders  M M Hassan, Bharathipuram Sasi, N Peethambara Kurup, V D Satheesan, Lali Vincent, Thampanoor Ravi, NSU all-India president Roji M John, apart from MLAs and MPs, will also be present at the launch of the yatra, which is also a fund-raising exercise of the party.

Around 6 pm, the rally will reach the new bus stand area of Kasargod, where the leaders will be given a rousing welcome. The yatra will reach Chattanchal at 10 am on Wednesday; Kanhangad at 11 am and at Trikaripur at 6 pm, after which the yatra will enter Kannur.

At all these places, Sudheeran will give packets of vegetable seeds to organic farmers.
