THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Sukrutham, a project aimed at making cancer treatment free for all, will be launched in the state on Friday.
With the implementation of the project, Kerala becomes the first state in the country to provide free cancer treatment. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the project, where actor Mammootty will present the project. Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, Finance Minister K M Mani, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan, Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob and others would be present.
In the first phase the project will be implemented in the Regional Cancer Centre here; Malabar Cancer Centre; Medical College Hospitals in T’Puram, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Kozhikode and Ernakulam General Hospital.
Sukrutham project is being launched as many people could not afford the escalating cost of cancer treatment. There is ceiling to the financial assistance provided through RSBY, Chis Plus, Karunya Benevolent fund, Thalolam and Arogyakiranam. Those who are not getting the benefit through these projects will come under the Sukrutham project.
All those in the BPL list, who even do not have cards, will get the benefit of the project.
