KOCHI: The World Bank (WB) has entered into a tie-up with the All-India Management Association (AIMA) to offer a diploma course in Public Procurement, in an attempt to make the public tendering practices in India at par with international standards. The course will be introduced in the State in the first week of November.

The course will be launched at the Kochi-based Veer Savarkar Institute of Business Studies (VSIBS), which is the Nodal centre of the AIMA in Kerala.

“There is no uniform process in public procurement in the country. The course will help the students familiarise with the process stipulated by the World Bank,” said VSIBS managing director P V Arun.

The six-month course will feature e-learning, instructor-led-sessions, self-study and social learning. The delivery of the  course will be governed by the Charter for Public Procurement Studies (CPPS). At the end of the online and offline training sessions, a summative assessment will be made. On successful completion of the programme, a certificate issued jointly by the World Bank and the AIMA will be given to students.

“The course, which has already been launched in other parts of India, is being delivered in partnership with leading training institutes, a panel of 50 public procurement consultants and trainers from across the country,” stated a World Bank website.

It will help students understand the procurement practices across the globe. It aims at enabling those interested in the process to understand the rationale behind public procurement decisions.

It will also help procurement professionals update their domain knowledge, while imparting professional training in public procurement to non-procurement professionals, who participate in or manage procurement function, and employees of private sector bidding.   Candidates with bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, or three-year diploma in Engineering can apply for the course. The course fee is Rs 22,000.
