IDUKKI:  As the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam continued to remain around 141.7 feet on Wednesday also, Tamil Nadu once again failed to keep its promise to maintain the water level at 141 feet.

The Theni Distirct Collector had given word to the Idukki District Collector during their joint inspection of the 120-year-old reservoir on Tuesday.Tamil Nadu opened shutters 3 and 4 by half foot allowing a flow of 400 cubic feet per second to the Idukki dam, while it drew 2100 cubic feet water per second through the pen stock pipes.Even then, the water level in the dam did not come down as it received heavy inflow which was marked at 2495 cubic feet per second owing to heavy rains in its catchment area. It is alleged that the neighbouring State is trying to maintain the water level around 142 feet even after promising that it would let it rise above 141 ft.
