Cleaning Drive: Health Dept to Spend Rs 4.3 cr

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The wards in all local bodies in the state will be sanctioned Rs 25,000 each this year for undertaking pre-monsoon cleaning activities, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said on Tuesday. Of the Rs 25,000 that would be spent in each ward, Rs 10,000 each will be contributed by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Suchitwa Mission and Rs 5000 will be sourced from the own funds of the local body concerned, he said, briefing the media on  decisions taken at a meeting on monsoon preparedness convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. In 2015, the Health Department will be spending Rs 4.3 crore on pre-monsoon cleaning and epidemic preventive measures, he said. The NHM had earmarked Rs 19 crore and the Suchitwa Mission, Rs 13.9 crore for ward-level activities this year.
