Express News Service

ALAPPUZHA:The district police have been gearing up the search for the murderer who killed a toddy shop employee for Rs  2400 at Thakazhi. Chengannur CI R Binu, who is investigating the case, said that the whereabouts of suspected killer Akashdeep are unavailable. The mobile phone of the culprit is of no help to the investigating team as it is switched off after the incident, CI said. The district police has constituted a special squad for tracking the culprit.

The body of Ramachandran, the victim in the case, was handed over to relatives after postmortem examination at Alappuzha Medical College on Saturday afternoon. The body was cremated on his houses premises at Mithrakari in Kuttanad.

Ramachandran, 64, of Valiyapramabil House, Mithrakari was found murdered and kept inside a freezer at a toddy shop at Kelamangalam near Thakazhi on Friday morning.

The police said that the Assam native, Akashdeep, possessed a SIM card using fake identity card, that originally belonged to a Malayali from a shop in the Kottayam district.  He did not give any identity cards to the toddy shop owner at Changanassery also. The only sign of his identity is the name, he had written on the table of the toddy shop at Thakazhi, the police said.

The police are also doubtful about his name. An officer said that if he is an inborn criminal, he would not have mentioned his real name. So we suspect that he had written a fake name on the table of the shop to mislead the police and others.

It was found that Rs  2,000 from the pocket of Ramachandran and Rs  400 from the cupboard of the toddy shop were also missing. The identity card of Ramachandran was also lost from his pocket.
