Preparations on for Nehru Trophy

ALAPPUZHA: The arrangements for the 63rd  Nehru Trophy Boat Race began at Punnamada finishing point here on Wednesday. District Collector N Padmakumar inaugurated the construction of pavilion. Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) Society infrastructure committee convener Thomas Varghese participated in the function.

Captain’s clinic and other arrangements were held as part of the boat race. The NTBR Society issued stringent measures to the participants and rowers for the smooth conduct of the event.

The organisers said the chundan boats should arrive at the finishing point with rowers in their prescribed uniforms and decorated umbrellas at 1 pm for mass drill. Boats failing to attend or arrive late for the drill, will see their bonus being cut by 25 per cent, they added.

The number of rowers should be between 75 to 95 in chundan boats. The number boards of the boats should be exhibited in all boats.  The boats which failed to obey the order at the starting point will be disqualified from the race, the organisers said.

The number of males in the women ‘Thekkanodi’ category boats should be below five, the organisers said. 

Meanwhile the tracks and heats of the boats have been fixed for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.
