Antony, VS Engage in a Game of Oneupmanship

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The war of attrition between Congress leaders and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, which was triggered at the height of Aruvikkara bypoll campaign, did not end even on the poll day.

Reacting to mediapersons here on the snide remarks of V S depicting him as ‘Aarattu Mundan’ a torch-bearing dwarf leading a temple procession, Congress working committee member A K Antony said he had not studied in the school where Achuthanandan was educated. “VS is always like that. I won’t make remarks like what he is accustomed to,” Antony said.

In a tit for tat to Antony’s comment VS said here that not only the school, even the subject Antony had studied also was his problem. He said while Antony studied in the Congress school which Mahatama Gandhi wanted to be dissolved, he had studied in the Punnappra-Vayalar school which was part and parcel of freedom struggle.

He said for the last 75 years he was learning the problems of the downtrodden which Antony can never ever comprehend. VS pointed out that Antony had been patronising the corruption under the UDF Government for the last four years. He justified his calling Antony ‘Aarattumundan’ by reiterating that it was a well-deserved name for Antony who has been the torch-bearer of a corrupt government.
