Thousands Soak up Spirit of Peruvanam Pooram

THRISSUR:Thousands of people thronged the renowned Peruvanam Nadavazhi and by-lanes near the Peruvanam Mahadeva Temple on Sunday night to soak up the spirit of legendary Peruvanam Pooram. Peruvanam Pooram, performed by the percussion maestros, is known for it’s grandeur and strict adherence to rituals.

Pandimelam led by Padma Shree Peruvanam Kuttan Marar and team, Panjarimelam led by Peruvanam Sankaranarayana Marar and Panchavadyam were the major attractions. The symbolic entrance of 18 deities from the neighbouring areas was held.The pooram began at 4 pm with Kadalashery Pisharikkal Bhagavti entering the temple  to the accompaniment of five caparisoned elephants and a panchari melam led by Peruvanam Shankara Narayanan Marar. At about 6 pm,   Arattupuzha Sasthavu entered the temple through the southern Gopuram to the accompaniment of seven elephants and moved towards to eastern nada with the accompaniment of a Pandimelam led by Peruvanam Kuttan Marar.

By the time the melam reached its crescendo, Chathakudom Shasthavu and Thottipal Bhagavati entered the temple to the accompaniment of seven elephants and a panjari melam. The melam lasted for more than three hours. At about 11 pm, the Urakathamma Thiruvadi of Urakam Devi temple entered the Peruvanam Nadavazhi.
