THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bizarre coincidence, serial artists in police uniform came to the rescue of a 13-year-old boy, who faced sexual assault in the state capital the other day.The incident took place Monday evening, revealed Pothencode police officers, who nabbed the culprit, a 24-year-old construction worker Thoufeeque, on Tuesday.

“Thoufeeque, a Pothencode native, was a known person to the victim. He found the boy on his way to home and offered him a free ride. But, instead of stopping near the boy’s house, he took him to a deserted location at Pirappancode,” said police officials.

When the accused started to touch the boy inappropriately, he ran away, said police.

“While fleeing, the boy spotted the board “police station” in front of a building, which was, in fact, a serial shooting location,” they added. The accused, who had followed the boy, fled the scene after seeing men in ‘uniform’. The serial crew then took the minor to Venjaramoodu police station, from where the case was transferred to Pothencode police station, as the crime occurred under the latter’s jurisdiction.

Pothencode Police said Thoufeeque was booked on charges of kidnapping, criminal intimidation and under the POCSO.
