It was a different offering Sabaraimala Sannidhanam on Wednesday night as the devotees could witness the live rendering of Harivarasanam the sacred lullaby by play back singer K J Yesudas, instead of the recorded version played regularly before closing the the sanctum sanctorum after the Athazhapuja at the Temple.
The voice of Yesudas was received in the pin-drop silence on the thickly packed hill shrine, the last day of the monthly pooja for the month of Kanni.
The singer a known devotee of the Temple, who reached Sannidhanam in the morning along with friends by carrying “irumudikettu” from Pampa Lord Ganapathi temple on head, climbed the 18 Holy Steps when the Usha pooja was held. After
offering prayers at Lord Ayyappa temple and receiving prasadam from the thantri and the melsanthi, Yesudas offered prayers at Malikappuram Devi temple. Yesudas along with Travancore Devaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan had meals offered by from the Melsanthi at Sopanam.
It was his visit to the temple after a gap of four years as he had visited the temple in April, 2012, to receive the first Harivarasanam Award instituted by the State government.
