THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In what could be seen as an embarrassment to the Kerala government, T P Senkumar, the former State police chief, has filed a criminal contempt of court petition against the State government before the Supreme Court on Saturday.
He filed the petition after the State government delayed the implementation of the apex court's order reinstating him as the State police chief. In the case filed by his lawyer Harris Beeran, chief secretary Nalini Netto has been arraigned as the respondent.
Senkumar, in his petition, sought an extension of his service period to compensate the loss of service period in the last one year. He also added that the government was taking little action on implementing the Supreme Court order.
"It was the chief secretary representing the government and she was responsible for issuing orders," he told the New Indian Express.
Senkumar also pointed out in the petition that a similar case was reported in Karnataka where legal action was taken against the chief secretary of Karnataka not adhering to an order from SC.
The Supreme Court issued the landmark verdict reinstating Senkumar on Monday. The judgement favouring Senkumar came after his 11-month legal battle with the government. Senkumar was removed from the post in last June citing his alleged ‘apathy’ in handling the case on Puttingal temple tragedy and the Jisha murder case. Though Senkumar was appointed as the managing director of the Kerala Police Housing Construction Corporation Ltd, he refused to take up the post.
