IDUKKI: CPI state committee member Mathew Varghese alleged on Sunday that Power Minister M M Mani and Devikulam MLA S Rajendran were “bosses of the encroachment mafia functioning in Munnar”.

He was speaking after flagging off a march to the DySP office in Santhanpara against Mani for allegedly “imposing fake cases on CPI activists” and “detaining them in jail by joining hands with police officers”.

If Mani could rule the CPM party in the state, it is only because of the CPI’s generosity, Varghese said, adding that Mani won the election because the CPI backed him. “Mani together with Rajendran have been reselling government land in Munnar and Vattavada after receiving crores of money.

Mani, who was a cardamom plantation worker, has now become a millionaire,” he alleged. “But Mani and Rajendran should never hope that they could remain as minister and MLA forever by foisting false cases on CPI workers”.
