Kottumala Bapu Musliyar passes away

The mortal remains were kept at the Suprabhatham daily office in Kozhikode for the public to pay their last respects.

MALAPPURAM: Sunni scholar and Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama joint secretary Kottumala Bapu Musliyar died following a heart attack at a private hospital in Kozhikode, on Tuesday. He was 65. Bapu Musliyar, who was the State Hajj Committee chairman, was admitted to the hospital with cardiac ailments a few days ago.  

The mortal remains were kept at the Suprabhatham daily office in Kozhikode for the public to pay their last respects. His body was brought to Samastha headquarters at Francis Road  around 3 pm. The funeral prayer, which started at 5pm, was led by Samastha Treasurer Syed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal. Bappu Musliyar’s mortal remains will be laid to rest at Kalambadi Juma Masjid at 10 am on Wednesday.

Born at Kalampadi in Malappuram, Bapu Musliyar was one of the senior-most leaders of the Samasatha Jamiyyathul Ulama. He was the son of the late Shariat scholar Kottumala Aboobacker Musliyar. He had graced the general secretary post of the Samastha Kerala Islamic Education Board for over five years. He had also served as Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Mufathishin president, Jamiya Nooriya committee member and Ernad Taluk president. Musliyar’s first wife Safiya had predeceased him. He is survived by wife Ayishabi, children Aboobacker, Faisal, Abdul Rahman, Fathima Suhara, Souda and Fousiya.
