MALAPPURAM: Mar Dionysius College, Pazhanji and Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha will battle it out in the final of TNIE GOAL 2017 at Malappuram District Sports Council Stadium, Kottappadi Sunday as the premier inter-collegiate tournament, in its sixth edition, awaits a new champion.
MD College defeated Christ College, Irinjalakuda 1-0 while Nirmala trounced SN College, Kannur 4-0 to progress to the final, set to kick off at 5.30 pm, where a cash reward of `2 lakh awaits the winner. The runners-up will get `1 lakh.
Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar will attend the valedictory session as chief guest and hand over the trophies to the winners and runners-up.
Ten players including the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker, the most promising youngster, tournament top scorer, player of the tournament and player of the final as well as the recipients of the goal of the tournament and save of the tournament will be presented with TVS Apache RTR series motorcycles.
The tournament saw the participation of 24 teams and featured the likes of Asharudheen, Sahal Abdul Samad, Muhammed Parakkottil and Netto Benny who are part of Kerala’s Santosh Trophy squad this year.
