Fever rages with 29,000 new cases reported

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fever epidemic raging across the state showed no signs of ebbing with as many as 29,000 cases reported on Monday. The Directorate of Health Services(DHS) also reported 499 suspected and 178 confirmed dengue cases.

There was also no let up in leptospirosis, Hepatitis A and H1N1 cases. Twenty leptospirosis cases, 18 H1N1 cases,  59 chicken pox and four Hepatitis A cases were reported.   The DHS reported one fever death in Malappuram and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome death in Thiruvananthapuram.  

Among the fever cases reported on Monday, Malappuram topped the list with 5,779 cases followed by Kozhikode with 2,957 cases. However, in the case of dengue, Thiruvananthapuram continued to be on top with 162 cases reported on Monday.
