THRISSUR: A woman and her paramour were awarded rigorous imprisonment till death and a fine of Rs 10,000 by the POCSO court on Friday for subjecting her daughter to sexual abuse. It would be for the first time a mother has been convicted under POCSO for the sexual abuse of her children.
POCSO sessions judge Muhammed Wasim issued the order to Aattayam Aliyar, 52, a resident of Irumalappadi in Kothamangalam and the mother of two minor girls. The girls - aged 17 and 12 - were subjected to sexual abuse at a lodge in Thrissur by Aliyar. They were abused more than once in the presence of their mother.

The verdict on Friday was for the case involving the abuse of the 17-year-old girl. The case of her younger sister is still under trial.The incident happened during the start of the summer vacation. However, it came to light only after the school reopened. Overcome by shock and fear, the children revealed the incident to their teacher during a counselling session. The issue was brought before the CWC and a case was filed with the police.The father of the minor girls is bedridden and their mother entered into an illicit relationship with Aliyar.
