Move to exit from joint venture puts employees in a spot

KASARGOD: The state government’s decision to drop Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd-India’s largest power plant equipment manufacturer from the joint venture BHEL Electrical Machine Ltd (BHEL EML) has put employees in a spot.

The government should have held the larger partner BHEL accountable rather than allowing it to exit, said the leaders of the INTUC. The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, which administers the Central public sector enterprise, had written to the state government saying it was ‘ready’ to sell its stake in the joint venture. BHEL was not keen on the JV.

BHEL EML was incorporated in 2011 by the Central PSU acquiring the Kasargod unit of KEL as a 51:49 joint venture with the state government.
