THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former KPCC president V M Sudheeran, in a letter, has urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to ensure adequate measures to protect the historical Kovalam palace and the adjoining land as public property of the state and, under no circumstances, the heritage holding should slip into the hands of private parties.

“The legal advice by the Attorney General earlier and the Advocate-General now in this regard was against public interest, going by media reports. Their opinion cannot be held as the last word of law. If the Kovalam palace and properties are handed over to private parties, it will be an unpardonable lapse on the part of a democratic governance system,” he said.

“The advice of the leading legal experts in  the country should be availed and appropriate measures initiated to retain the Kovalam palace in the government domain,” Sudheeran said.

The copy of the letter has been sent to Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan.
