Irom Sharmila to participate in her first public programme in Kerala

Irom Sharmila will also be participating in the DYFI programme to be held at the Palakkad Fort Maidan on March 23, said the district secretary of the DYFI Premkumar.

PALAKKAD: Human rights activist Irom Sharmila who had come to rest at the Shanthi village in Mattathkad in Sholayur panchayat of Attappadi will participate in her first public programme in Kozhikode on Friday.

She will be attending a civic reception organised by Solidarity Youth Movement associated with Jamaat- e Islami at the KP Kesava Menon Town hall in Kozhikode at 5 pm, said Basheer Madala, her friend on whose invitation she had come down here.

Irom Sharmila will also be participating in the DYFI programme to be held at the Palakkad Fort Maidan on March 23, said the district secretary of the DYFI Premkumar.

"Irom Sharmila will ride a bicycle and inaugurate the two wheeler rally and DYFI activists from all around the district will arrive in two wheelers. she will also address the public meeting to be held at 5 p.m. in the evening," he said.

It may be recalled that CPM and CPI activists had welcomed Irom Sharmila with a jasmine garland and with slogans on the Kerala border at Aanakatti in Attappadi while arriving from the Coimbatore airport on Tuesday.
