Vizhinjam project: Cabinet approves RS 27 crore package for fishermen

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for a Rs 27 crore package to provide kerosene to fishermen through Matysafed in connection with the Vizhinjam international seaport project.The package is being implemented for a period of two years, which is the estimated construction time for the breakwater.The government decided to introduce the package considering the extra distance to be covered by 2,353 fishing boats from Vizhinjam South, North and Adimalathura fishing villages. These boats will have to cover more distance and, hence, more kerosene will be needed.  

In view of the port construction, an RDO-led committee has been formed to look into the impact suffered by fishermen. The kerosene package is being implemented based on the recommendations of this committee.The Cabinet decided to provide Rs 10 lakh to the family of Bihar native Satnam Singh, who had died in August 2012 while undergoing treatment at the Mental Health Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, subject to the trial court verdict.

Investigation has revealed Satnam Singh died following assault by other inmates and hospital staff. Cases against hospital staff are currently pending before the court.
The cabinet decided to provide three cents of land to 22 families being evicted for the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila national highway development.

Justice Dinesan Ombudsman
The Cabinet decided to recommend the Governor to appoint retired HC judge K K Dinesan as the Ombudsman for Local Bodies.
Lt Col (retd) P K Satheesh Kumar to be made MD of Kerala State Ex-Servicemen Development and Rehabilitation Corporation.
10 new posts to be created for expanding the Cultural Directorate.
