THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has taken an in-principle decision to appoint CPM leader and former MLA A Padmakumar as the new president and CPI leader K P Sankaradas as member of the Travancore Devaswom Board. The CPM and CPI have cleared both the names for the post.
“The formalities for their appointment are almost complete and the government order is likely to be issued on Tuesday night or Wednesday. The appointment cannot be delayed as the Sabarimala pilgrim season is beginning on Thursday,” said Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran’s office.
Governor signs ordinance
Meanwhile, paving the way for replacing incumbent president Prayar Gopalakrishnan and member Ajay Tharayil, Governor P Sathasivam on Tuesday signed the ordinance curtailing the tenure of Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) members from three years to two years.
The Governor had asked the Devaswom Minister the other day to state whether there was any urgent necessity to promulgate an ordinance. With the signing of the ordinance, the services of Prayar Gopalakrishnan and Ajay Tharayil have come to an end.
