Bodies of missing teens recovered from river

The bodies of two teenager boys who went missing on Saturday while bathing at Aruvippuram ghat of the Karamana river at Peyad were found floating in the river early on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The bodies of two teenager boys who went missing on Saturday while bathing at Aruvippuram ghat of the Karamana river at Peyad were found floating in the river early on Sunday.  The bodies were spotted by local residents. They alerted the Fire and Rescue Services who fished out the bodies and sent them to the Medical College Hospital morgue.

The boys, identified as Sidharth of Sreevaraham, and Vivek of Mangattukadavu, both 17, were reported missing around 3.30 pm. A 13-member team of students had gone to the ghat, after attending the birthday party of a friend at Kundmankadavu. About five of them ventured into the river while others waited on the bank.

Sidharth is reported to have slipped into a deep spot and Vivek, while attempting to rescue him, was caught in the strong undercurrents They were class XII students of St Thomas School and Chinmaya School respectively.  

The bodies have been handed over to relatives after a post-mortem. Sidharth leaves behind father Jayachandran and mother Bindhu; Vivek is survived by father Murugan and mother Bindhu.
