KOZHIKODE: BJP state general secretary K Surendran triggered a political controversy on Wednesday with a Facebook post alleging unholy nexus between CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Faisal Karat, who has been booked by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for gold smuggling.

Surendran posted a photograph in his FB page in which Kodiyeri is seen waving to the party supporters from a red Mini Cooper car during the LDF’s Jana Jagratha Yatra at Koduvally in Kozhikode. According to Surendran,  the car is owned by Faisal Karat.

The BJP leader claimed he has more evidence to prove Kodiyeri’s alleged link with Faisal and challenged the Chief Minister and the state government to probe it in detail. “The incident proves the CPM leaders have crony relationship with the criminals. Faisal Karat is an accused in many gold smuggling cases. By using the luxury vehicle of an accused, Kodiyeri once again clarified the party’s stand on such criminals,” Surendran said.
