Keralasabdam managing editor Rajakrishnan passes away

KOLLAM: Dr B A Rajakrishnan, the socio-cultural-literary face of Kollam, breathed his last on Tuesday. He was 70.

A multifaceted personality, Rajakrishnan leaves behind his mark as a journalist, social worker, industrialist, publisher and film producer. Rajakrishnan who passed MBBS from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in 1965 had a brief stint in health services. 

He became part of the Keralasabdam Group in 1974. After marrying the younger daughter of industrialist and publisher R Krishna Swamy, he played a pivotal role in making Keralasabdam and Kunkumam Publications powerful brands in the market.

While serving as the managing editor of Keralasabdam and Kunkumam, Rajakrishnan ventured into the film industry. He produced films like Radha Enna Penkutty, Kalika, Thalam Manassinte Thalam, Balloon and Lady Teacher. 

He is survived by wife Vimala Rajakrishnan (editor of Kunkumam, Mahila Ratnam and Nana magazines), children Madhu R (executive editor, Keralasabdam), Srividya and Lakshmi Priya and in-laws Sivakumar and Sangeetha Madhu. The cremation will take place at Mulamkadakam crematorium at 3 pm on Wednesday.
