From our online archive

KOLLAM: Passengers of Guruvayur-Edamon train heading towards Edamon panicked when they saw two trains facing them when it was about to enter Avaneeswaram station.

They pulled the chain expecting a head-on collision, but in reality the confusion was due to Kollam- Thambaram train fitted with engines on both sides of the train.

Kollam-Thambaram train heading towards Thambaram was halted at the station on platform number 1 for crossing. At the same time Punalur-Kollam passenger heading towards Kollam came at platform number 2.

The platform number 1 would be free for the incoming Guruvayur-Edamon train only after allowing Kollam-Thambaram train to leave the station.

But passengers of Guruvayur-Edamon train which reached the outer side of the station thought the train was about to hit any of trains halted on the platforms.

Much to their relief the Kollam-Thambaram left the station for Thambaram soon.
