KOCHI: ONGC drill ship Sagar Bhushan, involved in a blast that killed five persons at the Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) last week, will have to await the lifting of a ban imposed by the Department of Factories and Boilers before continuing with its repair work.

The Department of F & B will lift the ban only after holding a discussion with the CSL management and ensuring safety measures are in place. The ban at the CSL was imposed as per the provisions under the Factories Act 1948 following the mishap on February 13.

In its probe into the accident, a four-member team of the F & B Department had found that there were serious lapses on the part of CSL in ensuring safety at the workplace, leading to the accident. The F & B team also confirmed the doubt that leak and subsequent burning of acetylene caused the mishap at the country’s leading ship-building company.
