The Islamic preacher is wanted by the police in a case over the adoption of non-secular textbooks at the Peace school in Ernakulam.

KOCHI: The year-long search for Peace International School managing director M M Akbar came to an end on Sunday, with the police taking him into custody from the Hyderabad International Airport’s emigration area.A four-member police team, led by Ernakulam North SI Vipin Das, nabbed Akbar around Sunday noon.

“He was returning to Doha from Australia via Malaysia on Saturday. But the flight which he boarded had a stopover in Hyderabad before proceeding to Qatar. Since the Kerala Police had issued a lookout circular, the emigration wing apprehended him. He informed them he had written more than 10 books and also the managing director of more than 10 schools. So emigration officers could identify him. They immediately passed the information to the Kerala Police,” said an officer who was part of the team.

The police brought Akbar to Kochi in the evening and was interrogated at the assistant commissioner’s office. The Islamic preacher is wanted by the police in a case over the adoption of non-secular textbooks at the Peace school in Ernakulam. The State Education Department had also issued an order to close down the school after reports by the education secretary and district collector confirmed non-compliance with the syllabus.
