Kerala ready to face any medical emergency: CM

The first phase of Institute of Advanced Virology will be completed in the current year, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a function held by Kozhikode Pauravali.

KOZHIKODE: The first phase of Institute of Advanced Virology will be completed in the current year, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a function held by Kozhikode Pauravali to felicitate the heroes who fought against the deadly Nipah virus outbreak in the district. The CM said that Kerala is a model in several sectors.

“Health is one of these sectors. The Health Department has gained attention in achieving victory over the deadly Nipah virus infection, which was not seen in Kerala before. It is a major achievement for the state, and world is appreciating the accomplishment. Our state is ready to face any emergency situation,” the Chief Minister said.

He reiterated that the government will give an award for nurses, who show meritorious performance, in the name of Lini, who lost her life while fighting against Nipah.

The CM gave away mementoes to people who worked hard to contain the disease. The awardees include Health Minister K K Shylaja, Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan, Transport Minister A K Saseendran, health secretary Rajeev Sadanandan, director of health services Dr R L Saritha, Kozhikode district medical officer Dr V Jayasree, additional district medical officer Dr Asha Devi, Dr Anoop Kumar of Baby Memorial Hospital, Dr G Arun Kumar of Manipal Institute of Virology and Dr Abdul Gafoor of Apollo Hospitals.
