Abhimanyu murder: State secretary of Campus Front arrested

Police suspect that Mohammed Rifa, who hails from Thalassery in Kannur, had actively conspired and took part in the murder of Abhimanyu.

KOCHI: Kerala Police have arrested one of the key accused in connection with the murder of Abhimanyu, who was a student of Maharajas College Ernakulam and SFI activist.

Police arrested Mohammed Rifa, who hails from Thalassery in Kannur, from Bangalore. He is a law student in Kochi and the state secretary of Campus Front.

Police suspect that Rifa had actively conspired and took part in the murder of Abhimanyu.

He is suspected to have called the gang to reach at the Maharajas college campus when trouble started brewing between students belonging to SFI and Campus Front. The investigation team is confident of nabbing the person who stabbed Abhimanyu to death and his whereabouts including his present hideout.

Fourteen persons have so far been held in connection with the case. The police had launched a state-wide crackdown against SDPI and Popular Front of India in connection with the murder case.

Earlier, Saneesh, 28, a native of Palluruthy, who is a member of the trade union of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) was taken into custody based on the statements collected from Fort Kochi native Riyas, an accused in the case.
