THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Support has been pouring in for Hanan Hamid - the college student who sells fish at Thammanam - who became a victim of cyberbullying. After CPM veteran VS Achuthanandan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come out supporting the young girl while appreciating her efforts to be self-dependent.

In a Facebook post, the chief minister appreciated Hanan for her determination to support her family. Entire Kerala should come out in her support, Pinarayi said while criticising the social media for spreading half-baked information.

"It's a matter of pride when someone tries to be self-dependent and fund their studies with their own earnings. Only those who have undergone such life experiences will be able to understand this. However, Hanan from Kochi is one step above.

In addition to her studies, Hanan is also trying to support her family. I feel proud of her. Hanan, go ahead with confidence. Entire Kerala stands with you," Pinarayi wrote in his Facebook post.

The chief minister reminded social media activists to be cautious about social media campaign as it could be a double-edged sword. While being in social media you should be more cautious and should not forward everything that comes across you. Many a time factually wrong campaigns are also being supported by media. It will only lead the society to more dangers," the chief minister said while offering all his support to Hanan.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has directed the police to take stringent action against those who unleashed a malicious campaign against Hanan online. The CMO also directed the Ernakulam District Collector to ensure protection to the student.
