KOLLAM: The special investigation team probing the Kevin murder case on Sunday managed to unearth material evidence crucial to the success of the ongoing investigation when they brought the four accused to Thenmala where the dead body was found.
Four swords used by the perpetrators of the ghastly crime were recovered from a canal near the house of Vishnu - one of the accused in the case - at Punalur.
The four accused, including Fasal, Vishnu, Riyas and Niyas, were brought here by the police team led by Ernakulam Range IG Vijay Sakhare and Kottayam SP Harishankar.
Only Fasal and Niyaz were allowed to get down from the police vehicle and the accused stuck to their earlier statement Kevin had indeed escaped from captivity.They showed the spot where Kevin had managed to slip away. With the help of the statements from the accused, the police have created a timeline of the crime.
Sakhare told reporters he had sought expert opinion from the medical board whether it is indeed a case of murder based on the findings in the post-mortem report - it said the death was due to drowning.The investigation team is engaged in efforts to come up with hard evidence linking the accused with the crime.
Cops not arraigned
Ernakulam Range IG Vijay Sakhare said ASI T M Biju and police driver Ajaya Kumar of Gandhi Nagar police station were not included in the list of accused. The IG, who said their inaction amounted to dereliction of duty, however, made it clear the duo was neither involved in hatching the conspiracy nor the murder. The duo has since been given bail.
