Kerala 'honour killing case': Probe team continues evidence collection

KOTTAYAM: Probing the abduction and death of Kevin P Joseph, the special investigation team (SIT) continued evidence and material objects collection on the second day.

On Monday, the SIT recovered a ‘lungi’ belonging to Kevin from the house of one of the accused, Shefin.
The investigation team is of the view further aspects and the involvement others in the crime can be considered only after completing the evidence collection along with the accused.

“We have focused on collecting maximum evidence with regard to the incident while the accused are in our custody,” said Kottayam SP Harisankar. “We will get the accused in our custody for a maximum of 15 days, and we have to collect the maximum possible evidence within this.” Of the 14 accused in the case, eight are in police custody while six persons were produced before the court on Monday. The SIT will seek their custody again on Wednesday.

At the same time, Kochi Range IG Vijay S Sakhare, who was camping in Kottayam to lead the investigation, left for Kochi on Monday and will monitor the case from there. The special investigation team is planning to submit the chargesheet in the case at the earliest. “We have to collect the maximum possible evidence. At the same time, we also need to wait for the reports of scientific examinations.
“We hope, the chargesheet can be submitted in the court within a month,” Harisankar said.
