MALAPPURAM: The Kerala Congress(M), which is playing its political cards close to the chest after walking out of the UDF, received a shot in the arm with IUML national secretary P K Kunhalikutty MP saying the KC(M) too can stake a claim to the Rajya Sabha seat which will fall vacant soon.

He was speaking to reporters here on Wednesday - they may well pave the way for the KC(M)’s return to the UDF, before leaving for New Delhi where he will take part in the UDF’s RS seat-sharing discussions following the invite from the Congress high command.

Kunhalikutty said the meeting will discuss the  KC(M)’s re-entry into the UDF fold and take a decision on the Opposition alliance’s candidate for the RS seat.  “The Kerala Congress has put some suggestions and formulae forward. These will also be discussed at the meeting,” he said. The KC(M) had backed the UDF candidates in Malappuram LS bypoll and Vengara Assembly bypoll after IUML’s K P A Majeed sought KC(M)’s backing.
