KOCHI: As part of reaching out to people to spread awareness on the importance of using online policing service facility ‘Thuna’, the state police chief has directed all police stations to launch a poster campaign for the people to understand its benefits.

State police chief Loknath Behera has decided to give impetus to the campaign after the Police Department faced severe criticism for remaining insensitive to complaints from the public. The recent Kevin murder case really put the department in a tight spot after it came to light the police refused to accept the complaint of Kevin’s wife Neenu who approached the police station seeking help to trace her kidnapped husband.

“It has come to our notice that many a time a person approaching police station with a grievance is not fully satisfied by the action taken by the police station staff/SHO. He is not been guided as to what he should do and whom should he approach if his grievances continue. Sometimes, all these dissatisfactions of the individual are aired through media, which immediately criticises the police for the inaction or for over action,” Behera was quoted in an executive directive issued to all police stations on June 7, 2018.

He also directed that the poster campaign on ‘Thuna’ should specifically say that in case the service from police station was not satisfactory, the petitioner can approach the high-level officers, whose details are mentioned in the posters.
