KOTTAYAM: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought details regarding the progress of inquiry into the abduction and death of Kevin P Joseph, hailing from SH Mount, Kottayam.

At the sitting held here on Tuesday, SHRC member K Mohankumar sought a report from Ernakulam Range IG Vijay S Sakhare, who is leading the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case.
Mohankumar said the commission had earlier received a report from the state police chief, which was prepared on the basis of the Kottayam district police chief’s report. “It said a few police officers were suspended and the accused in the case were arrested” he said.

“However, the exact progress of the investigation can be assessed only after seeing the report of the IG, which will be submitted on the basis of the completion of the inquiry,” said Mohankumar.Kevin was abducted by his fiancee Neenu Chacko’s brother and team on May 27 and his body was found in a stream at Chaliyekkara near Thenmala on the following day. The SIT arrested Neenu’s brother Syanu Chacko, father Chacko John and 12 others in connection with the incident and were remanded by the court.
