KOZHIKODE: The state government on Monday made it clear it is in no mood to challenge or circumvent the Supreme Court order allowing women of all ages to enter Sabarimala. Law Minister A K Balan told reporters here the state could not do ‘anything’ on the issue.
“There would be no legal validity for a resolution or an ordinance passed by the state government to circumvent the apex court order,” Balan said
He was referring to BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai’s demand for a special Assembly session to pass a resolution on Sabarimala issue. “If the BJP wants such an ordinance, why doesn’t the Centre do it?” Balan said.He accused the BJP and the Centre of playing ‘dirty politics’ to entrap the state government.
“On the one hand, the NDA Government at the Centre is directing the state to implement the apex court order in toto. At the same time, the state BJP continues to openly oppose the verdict,” he said.
He said attempts are being made to whip up violence in the state on the issue.He alleged the ‘dirty politics’ of the BJP had resulted in the state exchequer incurring a loss of at least `5,000 crore which could have otherwise gone into the reconstruction of the flood-hit state.
