THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Making its overseas debut, products of the state-owned ‘Kerala Soaps’ will soon to be available in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE), the public sector undertaking that manufactures the brand, on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RG Foods to facilitate exports to the two countries.

The agreement was signed by KSIE managing director K M Anil Mohammad and RG Foods executive director Vishnu R G, in the presence of Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty.

The minister said the initiative was in line with the state government’s efforts to expand exports and generate employment by developing products that meet international market standards. “The partnership will help Kerala products access new overseas markets and provide a major boost to the state’s industrial sector,” said Kunhalikutty.

Established in Kozhikode in 1914 and taken over by the state government in 1964, Kerala Soaps is best known for its flagship Kerala Sandalwood Soap, manufactured using pure sandalwood oil sourced from the Marayoor sandalwood forests.
