BHUBANESWAR: Contrary to State Government’s claim, the Orissa Medical Service Association (OMSA) today said, no post-mortem was conducted on Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati.

This could have a far reaching impact on the fate of the murder case which left Kandhamal strife-torn.

Members of the OMSA, an apex body of peripheral doctors in Orissa, revealed that the doctors did not conduct post-mortem on the Swami.

In fact, it was reported by media after the incident too. As per rituals of Hindu religion, post-mortem is not conducted on saints and keeping religious sentiments in mind after the incident.

However, as soon as the matter appeared in the media, the State Police went on record saying that post-mortem was conducted. The matter was raised in the State Assembly too.

However, the OMSA members today denied this claim and said, the doctors are being pressurised to sign on the dotted line to formalise the matter. ‘‘But we have told our members not to give in to any pressure to sign,’’ they said.

The matter can not only lead to embarrassment to the Government but also be a problem during trial as the reason behind death can be ascertained only from post-mortem report.
