CRAWLING through barbed wires, jumping into pools filled with sharks, diving into a tub of scorpions, so on and so forth and all the while getting to hear vile slangs. While the world has an ocean full of serious problems awaiting for the youth to solve, teenagers and young energetic groups are busy going for the above ‘daring stunts’ to prove their worth.

When recently the team from UTV Bindass’ Dadagiri came down to the capital to promote their show by giving a so-called opportunity to courageous youths to prove their guts, many college-goers crowded the Sahid Nagar Durga Mandap ground to take part to show they are brave. Though reality shows have been condemned time and again for promoting the break free attitude in the young blood that harms them emotionally and physically, it appears there’s no one to harness the television channels just as there’s no stopping to youngsters’ desire to participate.

A youngster for example accepted the challenge to survive chilly and pepper dust on his tongue for a minute immediately followed by consuming a drink made of thick chilly paste and pepper again. His hands were then tied and he was asked to take out a coin with his mouth from a bowl full of bittergourd and potato skin paste. To make the entire process worse, he was asked to remove pins pricked on a board immersed in ice cold water with a continuous feeble current passing through it. And at the end of it, all he got was a deo spray! “This is very easy and simple. I’m also going to try out some dare here,” said Manas, a 20-year-old student. On being asked why he and his friends wish to go for such dares, he said, “When so many people can do these why can’t we! Infact we would like to go for something more dangerous.” Well, who can explain them there are far more daring things that the planet, the country and the society need the youth to do which requires exceptional mental strength and could work wonders for humanity.
