MALKANGIRI: In a pre-dawn attack, Maoists blew up an under- construction police outpost at Salimi in Malkangiri district on Saturday.

Armed ultras stormed the outpost in Mathili area and triggered a landmine blast to blow up the building. However, no causality has been reported as no policeman was present in the outpost when the blast took place.

A few months back, the Maoists had blown up the Mundaguda outpost, 15 km from the Mathili police limits. Since then, police personnel deployed in Mundaguda and Salimi had been withdrawn and the two outposts were reportedly functioning at Mathili police station.

Police personnel have been sent to the area and patrolling intensified after the incident which hascreated panic in nearby villages.

A massive combing operation has also been launched and the border with Chhattisgarh sealed in a bid to check movement of Maoists.

According to reports, the Maoists are making the police stations and outposts as their targets to intensify their offensive against the cops.
