ROURKELA: A pre-nursery school student Sohan Goutam, son of businessman Sandeep Goutam, who was kidnapped in broad daylight from the Civil Township area under RN Pali police limits today, has been rescued.

He was rescued from Luakera area, on the outskirts of the city, and two of the five kidnappers nabbed. Three others are absconding.

Police said the kidnappers had planned to take the child to Puri. While family sources and police are tight-lipped, it is believed the kidnapping was done for hefty ransom. Reports said after closure of the school, the child was accompanied by the businessman’s employee Suresh Mahananda on a two-wheeler. A stone’s throw distance from the school, five persons arrived in a four-wheeler and overpowered Mahananda before fleeing with the child. Police said the kidnappers had changed three locations with the kid but as all the routes were sealed, they could not escape from the city. Rourkela SP Diptesh Patnaik said efforts the culprits were nabbed through mobile tracking system.
