BHUBANESWAR: The State Government today announced revision of minimum wages for workers.
Making a statement in the Assembly, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Puspendra Singh Deo said the minimum wage for unskilled workers is increased to Rs 90 a day, while semi-skilled workers will get Rs 103, Rs 116 for skilled workers and Rs 129 for highly skilled labourers.
Besides, the workers will be entitled to get a special allowance of Rs 2.50 a day after every two years or on each 50-point increase in the national consumer index.
The revised minimum wages were notified by the Labour and Employment Department on February 2. The Government invited public suggestions and objection on the revised wages in two months of the publication of the notice.
After taking into consideration the public objections and recommendations of the Orissa State Minimum Wage Board, the Government decided to implement the revised wages the Minister said.
Prior to the wage revision, the minimum wage for the four categories of workers were Rs 70, Rs 80, Rs 90 and Rs 100 a day respectively. The revised wage will benefit more than 1.25 crore people in 83 scheduled employment organisations.
