JAJPUR: The Brahmani River Pellets Ltd (BRPL), an Indian company promoted by United Kingdom's Stemcor group, is all set to be commissioned ahead of the schedule.

The commissioning of all its units has been advanced by seven months to September 2010 as against the original date of March 2011. BRPL is setting up a 4 million tonne per annum capacity (MTPA) Iron Ore Pelletisation Complex, the first of its kind in the state where the low grade iron ore fines lying unutilised will be transformed into pellets with the latest technology.

The project set up with an investment of Rs 1485 crore, comprises a four MTPA iron ore beneficiation plant at Tonto, Nalda and Barbil tehsil in mineralrich Keonjhar district, a 4 MTPA iron ore pelletisation plant at Kalinga Nagar industrial complex in Jajpur district and laying of 230km pipeline from Barbil to Kalinga Nagar to carry beneficiated iron ore in slurry form. The plant will require 18.5 MW of power each at Barbil and Kalinga Nagar. The water required for the plant will be drawn from the Baitarani river at a suitable location in Keonjhar district. The plant will convert the lowgrade ultra fines generated by iron ore mines in the Barbil region into valueadded pellets to be used by the steel plants in Orissa.
