DHENKANAL: A large number of people have been affected by flood in Kamakshyanagar, Bhuban and Sadar blocks of the district.

Even as rain has subsided, flood situation continues to be grim. Vehicular communication has been hit with flood water flowing above roads in Dhenkanal, Kamakshyanagar and Bhuban roads.

As per official reports, villages under Bhuban, Gengutia gram panchayat under Sadar block and villages in Kantapal of Kamakshyanagar subdivision have been cut off from the mainstream. People of Kantapal gram panchayat have been shifted to Kaliahota primary school. Demanding supply of cooked food by the administration, the affected persons alleged that they are yet to get relief materials and drinking water pouches.

In Dhenkanal, 142 villages have been marooned. Kamakshyanagar BDO Basant Majhi said the administration will provide rice and flattened rice to the victims for the next three days.

The situation is no different in Bhuban where people are marooned for the last five days. With river Brahmani rising, people here are panic struck.

District Collector Bishnu Prasad Panda said officials have been pressed for relief and evacuation works.
