MALKANGIRI: An under trial prisoner (UTP) undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here died on Friday morning.
Merger Kanhia (30) was not keeping well for sometime and was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. He died of kidney failure, said Malkangiri police station IIC Ramakrishna Pati.
A native of Kurmanur village under Kalimela police limits, Kanhia was arrested under along with 132 others at Surlikonda village in March 2011 by Orkel Police for allegedly transporting ganja.
Kanhia was granted bail by a local court recently but could not be released as he failed to furnish the surety, Pati added.
