Bird Flu: Districts cautioned on egg provision

From our online archive

BHUBANESWAR: The avian influenza outbreak has prompted the Women and Child Development Department to direct all districts to adopt caution while providing eggs to beneficiaries under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP). While just two districts have reported H5N1 outbreak, it is the flying birds which are a cause of concern.

The W and CD Department cautioned the Collectors that since some districts are witnessing mysterious death of crows and other birds, there is need for strong precautionary measures.

The Collectors have been asked to instruct the child development project officers, anganwadi supervisors and workers to monitor that eggs used in SNP are of best quality and prepared well before being provided in the meals.
