Ceasework Paralyses Courts

From our online archive

CUTTACK/BHUBANESWAR: Work was paralysed at the Orissa High Court after advocates resorted to ceasework, supporting the call of Bar Council of India (BCI), protesting Legal Practitioners Bill, 2010, and Higher Education and Research Bill, 2011.

Although judges held courts and heard all those who appeared in person, work could not continue for long. As the advocates stayed off work, proceedings were disrupted. In Bhubaneswar too, the court work came to a halt as the Bar members resorted to ceasework for the whole day.

According to the lawyers, the two Bills will threaten the authority of the Bar Council.
